Professor Patrick Brennan

Patrick is a global leader of medical imaging optimisation and perception. He is Chair of Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Sydney and the world’s highest ranked researcher in Medical Radiation Sciences. His work has changed clinical practice, impacted upon national guidelines and informed international reports. His research has been disseminated through thirty-five keynote/plenary talks across five continents.
He has published over 300 original papers in the highest ranked radiological journals along with the seminal textbook Radiation Protection in Diagnostic X-ray Imaging (Jones and Bartlett Learning 2016). He has generated $24 million in research support. His publications have resulted in Patrick being the only recipient of two prestigious Honorary Fellowships from both Australia and Europe: the first ever Honorary Fellowship of the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy; and the third Lifetime Fellowship ever awarded by the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy.
In 2018, he was conferred with the Payne-Scott Professorial Distinction by the University of Sydney.
Brennan founded DetectedX in 2019 with a vision to transform the future of disease detection around the world. DetectedX was borne as a collaboration with fellow well-respected global leaders in disease detection: Professor Mary Rickard and Dr Moe Suleiman.
