Fostering global excellence in diagnostic accuracy
What do we do?
We provide a superior medical imaging educational service that focusses on the breast and chest. At its core is the ability to interact with high quality radiological images of known truth, allowing clinicians to test, monitor, and improve their performance.
Our approach, initially driven through the BREAST program at the University of Sydney, is used by 85% of relevant clinicians in Australia, has won 20 awards, and was mandatory in a number of jurisdictions including New Zealand. Our methods have been published in over 100 scientific journals (including Radiology), and supported 30 PhD students.
Evidence shows that engagement with our approach improves clinical performance around cancer detection rates, decreases unnecessary patient recalls, and refines identification of invasive cancers.
Who are we?
DetectedX is a start-up medical education technology company created at the University of Sydney that transforms disease detection through intelligent, interactive, web-based educational programs for any clinician or student interested in medical imaging. It was founded by Professor Patrick Brennan, Professor Mary Rickard, and Dr Moe Suleiman in 2019.
Prof. Brennan, Prof. Rickard, and Dr. Suleiman are all global leaders in disease detection: Prof. Brennan is the world’s most published medical radiation scientist, Prof. Rickard pioneered breast cancer screening in Australia and South East Asia, and Dr. Suleiman is a worthy recipient of the John C Harsanyi Medal for Innovation. All are committed to improving disease detection and outcomes through academic positions at the University of Sydney.
Why a commercial entity?
Being a commercial entity means we do not have to rely on grant funding alone: we can develop nimble and innovative services for any clinical imaging service or university anywhere. It also lets us rapidly employ experts in radiology and artificial intelligence, so we can develop and deploy the world's first intelligent interactive educational technology where solutions are tailored to each individual’s needs and preferences. Partnering with Amazon Web Services has made our solutions available to every clinician on the planet.
Where are we now?
DetectedX currently has over 3,000 users in 150 countries; partnerships with major vendors including GE Healthcare, Fujifilm, and Volpara Health; national and international awards; commissions to provide tailored imaging educational solutions in four continents; and university integration as part of undergraduate and graduate programs.
